Statement re Saudi Arabia coach crash from the Bishops, Archdeacons and Dean of Blackburn Diocese

The Bishops and Archdeacons of The Church of England in Lancashire, together with The Dean of Blackburn, have issued a joint statement today in the aftermath of a crash in Saudi Arabia that claimed the lives of four Muslim pilgrims from Lancashire.

Rt Rev. Julian Henderson, Bishop of Blackburn; Rt Rev. Philip North, Bishop of Burnley; The Dean of Blackburn, The Very Rev. Peter Howell-Jones; the Archdeacon of Lancaster, The Venerable Michael Everitt and the Archdeacon of Blackburn, The Venerable Mark Ireland said: “We are deeply saddened by the terrible news today of the road accident in Saudi Arabia which has claimed the lives of four pilgrims from two towns in Lancashire.

“Christians understand the importance of making a pilgrimage – it is a time of deep significance for those making the journey. For such a terrible incident to occur at this of all times is particularly harrowing.

“Their families and friends in Preston and Blackburn can be assured of our prayers. We are also praying for everyone who has been injured in the crash.”
