Blackburn’s stunning Anglican Cathedral offers visitors an oasis of calm in a break away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre.

A visit to Blackburn Cathedral offers the chance to explore the stunning architecture, rich history and one of the country’s best collections of religious art including Penny Warden’s ‘The Journey’ and a 35ft sculpture, ‘Healing of the Nation’ on the exterior - often described as one of the most innovative pieces of modern sculpture at any English cathedral.

How to find us

The Cathedral is in Blackburn town centre and is located within a stone’s throw of the bus interchange and railway station and it is less than a minute’s walk from The Mall shopping centre.

Opening times

The Cathedral is open every weekday from 8.30am until 5.30pm.

On Saturdays and bank holidays the Cathedral is open from 9am until 4.30pm.

On Sundays the Cathedral is open from 8.30am until 4.30pm.

By car

The Cathedral is in the heart of Blackburn town centre and there are a number of convenient on street car parks. To get directly outside the Cathedral, sat nav users should use our postcode BB1 5AA.

Car parking

The nearest public car park is at Blackburn train station just two minutes away and there are many other public car parks close by. Please note that the only on-site parking is for disabled badge holders only.

By bus

Most regional bus services stop at Blackburn bus interchange. Upon arriving, simply walk along Ainsworth Street alongside Blackburn Market. Cross the road towards the train station onto Railway Road and the Cathedral is on your right.

By train

Blackburn is well served by the rail network and once you leave the station, the Cathedral is right in front of you in the Cathedral Quarter.

Toilets

Guest toilets - including disabled facilities - can be found on the ground floor next to Checks & Greys café.

Changing Places toilet

Blackburn Cathedral has a Changing Places toilet which is housed in the Crypt. Should access be required, please ask a member of the team who will be able to provide support for those guests who need to use this facility.

We offer guided tours of the Cathedral where you can learn about our purpose and history and our knowledgeable guides will highlight many key features and hidden treasures.

Blackburn Cathedral is blessed to have its own café - Checks & Greys which can be found on the lower level of the Cathedral building looking out on to Cathedral Square.

For more information on visiting Blackburn Cathedral and our facilities, here are some frequently asked questions.
There is no public parking available at the Cathedral. We advise you to use the nearest public car parks of which there are a number close by. We strongly advise local people to walk or cycle to an event or use public transport - the Cathedral is less than 5 minutes’ walk from both Blackburn railway station and the town centre bus interchange.  The Blackburn with Darwen Council website - blackburn.gov.uk has comprehensive town centre car parking information.

Although there are some old, uneven surfaces and care should be taken, Blackburn Cathedral is fully accessible and wheelchair friendly. There is level access into and around the Cathedral and there is a lift available to all floors. If you have a specific access need, please speak to a member of our team or a volunteer when arriving at the Cathedral who will be happy to help you. We have a number of measures in place to ensure disabled visitors get the most out of their visit to the Cathedral.
