The most inspiring classroom in Lancashire!
But Blackburn Cathedral is much more than an amazing space and bringing your pupils to this inspiring classroom can be a springboard to support study in many curriculum areas. It can also provide opportunities for all pupils to connect with, explore and begin to understand their own spiritual dimension in a way that is not possible within a classroom setting.
Using the Cathedral as the focus and the starting point for our exciting learning programme our aim for each visit is to inspire a sense of awe and wonder, as well as developing learning through a range of first-hand experiences and practical sessions. We offer a range of creative, innovative and age-appropriate activities, trails and workshops, all designed to give your pupils opportunities to:
• Explore the space
• Understand and interpret the space
• Experience the space
• Respond to the space
Each visit is an active learning experience designed to encourage pupils to ask questions and we hope to provide experiences and memories that will last beyond the length of their visit. We are always happy to adapt and develop our workshops to meet your pupils’ particular needs.
Blackburn Cathedral Education Department takes Quality Assurance very seriously. In order for us to maintain and develop the standards that we have set for ourselves we ask schools to take a few minutes following their visit to complete a Visit Evaluation questionnaire. Below are comments from some of our many satisfied customers!
Endorsements
“It was great that the trip was planned by taking our R.E topic into consideration and I felt sufficiently involved in this process. Thank you, we all had a great time! The children really enjoyed themselves and definitely learnt a lot. The children especially loved the drama involved in the trail. They were all very engaged. All the information was delivered excellently. Thanks again for a wonderful trip, both staff and children felt very welcome.”
“The trip was excellent the staff and volunteers at the Cathedral had high expectations and were very courteous. They made all the children feel welcome and were very friendly. There was no issue over the course of the morning and the activities were educational and contributed towards the children’s learning. The children responded well to the information as well as the questions. Which were also pitched at the correct level.”
“It was a thoroughly enjoyable visit that went beyond my expectations. Nothing could have been improved. Everything was pitched perfectly to my pupils (and they were a mixed age group). Sian was a wonderful host.”
“The tour and information we received was fantastic. The children have been talking about it since we returned to school and it has given them fantastic knowledge. As staff, we were incredibly impressed – having visited the cathedral in previous years, the changes to the presentation and resources have greatly enhanced the visit.”
