New Ethical Products Range Set for Cathedral Launch

A NEW range of ethical products from India is to be launched in the gift shop at Lancashire’s Anglican Cathedral next month. The initiative is being supported by the Dean, The Very Rev Peter Howell-Jones, who says that the goods were a great success when they were introduced to the shop at Chester Cathedral. Dean Peter came to Blackburn Diocese earlier this year from a post at Chester Cathedral. According to Blackburn Cathedral gift shop manager Kate Fulwell, the Indian company is called ‘Dalit’ - the word for ‘untouchable’ in India. The products include jars of spices such as ginger and chilli powder, as well as hand-made soaps. She added: “The craftsmen who make Dalit products are from the lowest caste in India and all profits made from sales go to a charity to raise awareness of their plight and help to improve their situation. “There is a real Christian ethos behind the sale of these items and we hope people will support the initiative by buying them.” The Dean invites people from across the County to attend the formal launch on Monday, October 23 at 6pm. Representatives from Dalit will be on hand tell the story of the Dalit range and light refreshments will be available.
