Celebrate life events

Blackburn Cathedral, with its historic and serene ambiance, offers a beautiful venue for hosting weddings, baptisms, and memorial services

We are regularly asked if it's possible to hold baptism, wedding and funeral services at Blackburn Cathedral. The short answer is yes, however the guidelines do differ slightly from that of a parish church.

Weddings at Blackburn Cathedral

You may only be married in the Cathedral if you live in the Cathedral Parish; if you are on the Cathedral Electoral Roll (the adult membership roll of the Cathedral, to be on this you must be a regular worshipper at the Cathedral); or obtain an Archbishop’s License (To qualify for a license you must have a strong connection with the Cathedral – for example a former choirboy or choirgirl).

The basic cost of a wedding in the Cathedral is the same as in any parish church in the country. There are, of course, additional things to take into account which you may choose to have and will add to the cost. All this will be discussed with you when you make an initial enquiry and it has been established you are entitled to be married at the Cathedral.

If you have been married previously, special guidelines apply, which allow, in certain circumstances, people to be married in church who have been divorced. You can obtain further information about the Church of England’s guidelines on their website.

If you would like to know more about getting married in the Cathedral please complete the form below or come to a Sunday Service and speak to one of the Clergy.

The final decision about Baptisms and Marriages rests with the Dean.

Baptisms at Blackburn Cathedral

We are often asked ‘Can I have my child christened at the Cathedral?’ The answer is ‘Yes’ – if you are a regular worshipper at the Cathedral, have a connection, or live in the Cathedral Parish. It does not cost anything to have your child baptised at the Cathedral.

If you are an adult and would like to be baptised please use the contact form below.

If you would like to explore this further please come to a Sunday Service and make yourself known to one of the Cathedral Clergy – they will be happy to help.

Funerals at Blackburn Cathedral

It may feel overwhelming if you are arranging a funeral for someone who has died. The team at Blackburn Cathedral will do what we can to help you through one of life’s most difficult times. Funerals at the Cathedral are available to everyone and we will provide support before, during and after the service, for as long as it’s needed.

If you are in the process of arranging a funeral for someone, please speak to your funeral director about holding it at the Cathedral or contact the Dean’s office to begin making arrangements.
