Having been enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of people, the world-famous Luxmuralis arrives in Lancashire for the first time ever! TIME, a spectacular light and sound show will be at Blackburn Cathedral from Tuesday 24th - Saturday 28th February 2026.

Internationally acclaimed artists Luxmuralis are bringing their stunning light and sound installation ‘TIME’ to Blackburn – the very first time it’s been to Lancashire.

This evocative and thought-provoking journey invites visitors of all ages to explore our collective relationship with time through breathtaking visual projections and a powerful original score. Within this unique setting, art and science come together in a truly immersive environment that reimagines space and narrative.

Guests will step through glowing corridors of light, venture into the inner mechanisms of time itself, and follow a dramatic story that spans from the origins of the universe to the present day.

The first of many major events planned for 2026 as part of the Cathedral’s Centenary celebrations, this installation will allow guests to witness time unfold as a living artwork and is perfect for families, art-lovers  and curious minds alike.

Ahead of the installation, The Revd. Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn said:

Following the success of Museum of the Moon in 2024 – where we welcomed 40,000 people to the Cathedral – and the forthcoming installation of Gaia, we are delighted to unveil the latest in our series of high-profile art installations.
This is a landmark moment – not just for the Cathedral but for the whole region – and we’re honoured to be hosting Luxmuralis in Lancashire for the very first time.
This multi-sensory experience invites reflection, wonder and shared discovery and the stunning beauty of Blackburn Cathedral is the perfect setting. We’re excited about welcoming as many people as possible to come and enjoy this unique experience.

About Luxmuralis

‘Luxmuralis’ is the name given to the artistic collaboration Peter Walker Sculptor and David Harper Composer, who specialise in immersive fine art, light and sound installations around the UK and abroad.

Creating works across multiple media and presentation formats. Luxmuralis create artwork that explores and develops the fine art tradition through new media, and place contemporary fine art, light, and sound production in an art historical context.

Luxmuralis take art onto the streets and provide access to visual artwork in public as well as unexpected places. Audiences are immersed in a fine art experience that bring ancient monumental and sacred spaces to life. Viewers become part of the artwork as they physically journey through the spectacular sound and light which is described as ‘evocative and powerful’ by hundreds of thousands who have experienced Luxmuralis.

Fine art, light and sound reflects closely on the history, heritage and art history of unique places and brings together the contemporary and the ancient. More than a light show, Luxmuralis create contemporary exhibitions whose core is always close to the sense of place, they are credited for creating the ‘stained glass windows of our time’ within sacred spaces.

Luxmuralis spectacular sound and light installations have been seen in a variety of places including most recently: St Paul’s Cathedral, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey; Chatsworth House; St Pauls Minneapolis; Limburg Dom; Oxford City museums; and many UK Cathedrals.
