Science and Faith Lecture: Revd Canon Dr Mike Kirby - Friday 8th November 2024

'A Life in Cancer Care: Pastoral and Professional Ministry Combined' - since ordination in 2013, and a ministry mainly in cathedral contexts whilst still an active scientist, a blended spiritual approach to pastoral and professional care has emerged. Here The Revd Canon Dr Mike Kirby reflects on some of his experiences in a life of science and faith.
Interstellar 10 with Roger Sayer - Friday 08 November 2024

Join us for a very special concert marking the 10th anniversary of the release of Christopher Nolan’s epic film Interstellar. Roger Sayer, the organist on the original film soundtrack, will perform a suite of Hans Zimmer’s music from the film’s iconic score alongside intergalactic favourites from ‘A Space Odyssey’ and Holst’s ‘The Planets’. Roger will also discuss working with both Nolan and Zimmer, which will be followed by an audience Q&A.
Lost in Wonder - Tuesday 12 November 2024

Developments in science and technology mean that the wonders of the natural world have never been better understood. But despite all our scientific understanding are we any closer to knowing what any of it means? Join us for an immersive evening of sights and sounds under The Moon reflecting on wonder and the search for meaning.
Tai Chi Demonstration Under the Moon - Monday 18 November 2024
All are welcome between 11am-1pm for a captivating Tai Chi demonstration at Blackburn Cathedral under the Moon.
Experience the graceful, meditative movements of this ancient practice in the serene surroundings of the Cathedral. Visitors are welcome to watch and learn more about the benefits of Tai Chi and see how mind and body connect.

'God in the Lab: How Science Enhances Faith' - Our experiments often contain or reveal details we find beautiful, and scientists at times speak of wonder and awe in their work. How do these experiences affect the scientific community, and do their responses vary depending on what they believe about God?
Using data from a recent survey and some very beautiful images, Dr Ruth Bancewicz will discuss these ideas in a way that draws both scientists and non-scientists into the conversation.

Lead by Angie Hicks, this very special evening under The Moon will see Fair Oriana deliver an atmospheric moon-themed programme of baroque music, celebrating the pure soprano voice and the unique sound of ancient instruments, accompanied by a team of highly virtuosic instrumentalists.
