Volunteering
Life as we know it at Blackburn Cathedral simply wouldn’t be possible without the help of our team of dedicated volunteers and there is a place for you to join them on our team.
Blackburn Cathedral relies greatly upon the generous contribution made by volunteers who come from our regular congregations and from the wider community.
Opportunities exist for suitable volunteers to help within the life and service of the Cathedral and this includes welcoming guests and work undertaken in support of visits by schools, churches, pilgrims and tourist groups.
Cathedral volunteering can be a way of using your gifts or a means of developing new skills. Careful scrutiny for the protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults is an important part of what we offer at the Cathedral, as is the promise of support and encouragement of our volunteers.
Example volunteering opportunities include:
- Stewarding at services or concerts
- Becoming a volunteer virger
- Becoming a tour guide
- Cathedral Server
- Bell ringing
- Cleaning the cathedral or gardening around the site
- Joining the education team
- Joining a choir
