Venue: Blackburn Cathedral

Worship is at the heart of the Cathedral every day of the year and you are always welcome to join us.

Blackburn Cathedral will host its annual service to mark Racial Justice Sunday at 10.30am on Sunday 8th February 2026.

All are warmly invited to attend this service where we will affirm our commitment to standing up to racism and discrimination in all its forms, through learning and growing together as a diverse community in Blackburn and beyond.

Reflecting on the importance of racial justice, we will give thanks for the gifts and beauty of human diversity and to commit to end the racism and acts of discrimination that continue to mar our world.

The guest preacher at this service will be The Revd. Munawar Din, Vicar of St Cuthbert’s Burnley and St Luke’s Brierfield. Munawar has pioneered intercultural ministry across the Diocese and serves as Dean of Global Majority Heritage Ministry. He is also the Bishop of Blackburn’s Advisor on UKME issues.

Ahead of the service, The Revd. Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn said:

Racial Justice Sunday was established by the Methodist Church in 1995 in response to the racially motivated murder of teenager Stephen Lawrence. It is held on the second
Sunday in February and is an opportunity for churches and cathedrals to come together in the context of worship, to reflect on the importance of racial justice.

It reminds us that everyone is loved equally by God, and it calls us to stand together against racism, to treat one another with respect and dignity, and to work together for a more just and welcoming world. This year we gather around the theme ‘Love your Neighbour’.

I am delighted that Revd. Munawar Din will be our preacher this year. We look forward to him being with us and especially rejoice as later that same day he will become an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral, recognising his significant contribution to the life of the diocese.

This service lasts a little over an hour and everybody is welcome to join us for worship both at the Cathedral in person and also online.

The Cathedral Eucharist is broadcast live each week at 10.30am and can be viewed on our website or on our YouTube channel.
