Breathing Colour - a joyful textile installation, immersive in colour, form and sound, suspended from the heights of Blackburn Cathedral.
Margo Selby is a British textile artist and designer of woven textiles working with colour and geometric form. She studied at Chelsea College and the RCA, graduating in 2001. Margo has established an expansive approach to working in textiles – across art, design and industry.
Margo’s practice as a weaver is at the heart of all of the studio projects. Throughout her work, Margo explores the relationship between man and machine, hand and industry, craft and technology. Her eponymous product ranges are available through national retailers including John Lewis, as well as her woven artworks which are collected and exhibited worldwide.
Awarded the 2021 Turner Medal for Britain’s Greatest Colourist, is in residence with textile printing company, Standfast & Barracks in Lancaster.
The incredible ‘Breathing Colour’ is formed of 100 metres of printed and pleated fabric in celebration of Standfast & Barracks’ Centenary year, each single tone chosen by 160 employees with a memory or story in mind.
This is a co-commission by The National Festival of Making and British Textile Biennial.
