The Cathedral will remain open late on Thursday 7th November providing a unique opportunity to enjoy the glow of the Moon after dark and to experience it as it is intended to be seen.

“Viewing the Moon in the daytime is wonderful, seeing it a night is extraordinary.”

For a truly special experience, book to visit in the evening when the installation truly comes into its own.

It is a completely different experience from viewing it in daylight and is highly recommended.

Entry is via pre-paid ticket which will be valid for entry at the purchased time only, but there is no restriction to the time you spend inside the Cathedral.


Tales from a Roaming Moon Chaser – Moon Sighting in the UK

Juned-PatelFor one night only there is an additional special event taking place in the South Transept at the Cathedral.

Juned Patel – a Roaming Moon Chaser will be sharing his knowledge and experience of following the moon in the UK.

Juned is a lunar enthusiast, avid photographer and amateur astronomer deeply dedicated to studying lunar crescent visibility. To understand the beauty of this phenomenon, Juned travels several times a month, chasing and capturing the moon’s crescent phase.

He will talk about the importance of spotting the crescent moon and its significance in Islam. He will discuss how it is sighted, the different methods used for locating and sighting and then how this information is distributed. Junad will talk about the science involved, his equipment and the technology employed along with importance of sighting the moon correctly and will share stories of his many trips both within the UK and around the world.

Note that each session will last around 20 minutes with the opportunity to ask questions at the end. The presentation will be repeated throughout the evening so that everyone can see it regardless of entry time.
