Blackburn Cathedral Centenary 2026
Welcome to the centenary of Blackburn Cathedral in 2026 - a hundred years in the making and we’ve got big plans
2026 will mark a significant moment in the life of Blackburn Cathedral as we celebrate our Centenary. We have exciting plans to celebrate the past, the present and as we look to the future.
We are planning a range of activities to mark this period in the rich history of our Cathedral and these will include celebratory events and special projects with community engagement at the heart of everything we do.
Our plans to develop a year of truly memorable events is already underway and we are busy working on other ways to help mark such an important milestone. We intend to look back on the past one hundred years and also work towards ensuring a legacy that lasts for the next century too.
Get involved
We are committed to marking the Centenary in many different ways culminating in a year-long celebration of the life and history of the Cathedral – and we need your help.
We intend to reflect all aspects of Cathedral life and it is hoped that the Cathedral family and wider community can work together on this prestigious campaign.
Your support and collaboration will undoubtedly make the journey to 2026 and beyond even more enriching for us all.
Do you have a story to share?
We’re collecting the memories, stories and moments that have helped shape a century of life at Blackburn Cathedral – and we’d love to hear yours.
As we approach 2026, our plans to mark this important milestone in the rich history of our Cathedral are well underway. In addition to celebratory events, thanksgiving and civic services, exhibitions and special projects, we are keen to put real life stories at the heart of the year.

We want to hear the memories and stories that reflect what the Cathedral has meant to those connected with it over the past hundred years.
Whether you have interesting memories, artefacts, memorabilia or personal anecdotes, we’re calling on our Cathedral family and the wider community to share their stories.
Perhaps you or a family member were baptised, married, or confirmed here? Did you sing in the choir, come to a special service, civic event or even attend a royal visit that left a lasting impression?
Was a relative employed in the construction of the building or did you watch on as our iconic Lantern Tower was hoisted into place?
Have you helped behind the scenes and have a tale to tell? Maybe you have a memento that helps shape a part of the Cathedral’s story?
If you have memories or something to share, please do get in touch – as each one helps tell the story of a Cathedral at the heart of its community.
Your memories will help us celebrate the people, moments, and memories that have shaped your Cathedral over the past 100 years.
Simply send an email to the Centenary team with details of how you can contribute or complete the form below.
