Photographers of all ages and skill levels from anywhere in the United Kingdom are invited to enter a moon photography competition to coincide with the installation of the Museum of the Moon at Blackburn Cathedral this November.

This fantastic, free to enter competition only has one theme – the Moon! And all submissions must feature the real moon in some form.

Shortlisted entries will be displayed in a special exhibition during the installation of Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon at Blackburn Cathedral in November 2024.

Whether you have a photo taken a while ago ready to go or this is a fresh challenge to capture the Moon over the coming days, this competition is for you. Here are all the details you need to know:


Competition Details

Theme: The Moon – your image must feature the real moon in some form
Start date: September 1st 2024
Closing date: 23:59, September 30th 2024
Entry fee: Free

Prizes: In addition to seeing shortlisted images displayed in a photography exhibition throughout November and your work viewed by thousands of visitors, there is also the chance to win a cash prize:

£500 for the overall winner.
£250 for a highly commended entrant.
£250 for The ‘People’s Choice Award’

The People’s Choice Award

In addition to the two prize-winning images selected by the judges, one image will also be selected from the shortlisted entries as a ‘People’s Choice Award’ through online visitor voting during the exhibition. Voting will be open during the installation of the Museum of the Moon, with the winner being notified thereafter.

Judging

The competition judging panel will include an award-winning astrophotographer, leading photography academics, an astrophysicist and an senior individual from the photography industry. The judges come from a range of disciplines and will consider images according to criteria comprising technical skills, artistic merit and originality.
