The Bishop of Blackburn in consultation with the Dean and Chapter wish to appoint a new Canon Precentor and Residentiary Canon to oversee liturgy and worship whilst playing a full and active part in governance and wider life of Blackburn Cathedral.
We seek a creative and inspiring colleague with the ability to make strong connections between the daily round of worship, faith in daily life and effective outward mission engagement as we continue to serve the wider diocese and county. As a diocese, we are committed to our vision ‘Healthy Churches Transforming Communities’ and the Cathedral is very much working in partnership to ensure effective delivery.
We need a resourceful and capable team player with strong people skills and a natural ability to help build confident disciples of Jesus.
Residentiary Canon – Playing a key role in the worship and wider spiritual activities of the Cathedral while making a proactive contribution to its spiritual life and community, you will be motivated by the desire for people to encounter the love of God in Christ and to grow in their faith.
Member of Chapter – As a Charity Trustee you will share in the strategic and spiritual oversight of the Cathedral, lead in designated areas of responsibility and serve on committees as required.
Canon Precentor – In collaboration with the Dean, to hold primary responsibility on all matters relating to worship, liturgy and music on behalf of Chapter. You will be committed to shaping inclusive, accessible and inspiring worship to the highest possible standard.
