Following the major success of 'Time' at Blackburn Cathedral in 2026, which attracted large audiences and widespread acclaim, Luxmuralis returns with 'SPACE', a new immersive journey through the wonders of the cosmos.

What is SPACE?
SPACE will transform the entire Cathedral into a fully immersive artwork taking you on an unforgettable journey through the wonders of the cosmos using stunning visuals and powerful soundscapes.
The captivating installations allow you to explore the vastness of the universe, from the explosive energy of the Big Bang to the formation of galaxies, planets and stars.
Within the stunning architecture of Blackburn Cathedral, the building itself becomes part of the experience, transformed through light, sound and scale.

Journey Through SPACE
SPACE delivers sweeping cosmic imagery, swirling galaxies, radiant nebulae and vast celestial formations, brought to life through large-scale projection creating fine art and immersive sound design.
Together, these elements create a continuously evolving environment where each sequence blends visual and sonic storytelling to create moments of awe, curiosity and reflection upon creation.
From the earliest moments of creation to the vast silence of deep space, SPACE is a visually spectacular, immersive experience that is perfect for guests of all ages.
Book SPACE tickets
The Cathedral will be open late each evening and entry is via pre-paid ticket only.
Choose a pre-booked time slot and your ticket will be valid for entry during this 15 minute period only, however there is no restriction to the amount of time you spend inside the Cathedral.
Ticket prices are as follows:
Adults (age 16+) £10
Children (age 4-15) £5
Family ticket (2 adults and upto 3 children or 1 adult and upto 4 children) £25
Infants (Under 4s) Free
Infants and all those aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note: SPACE is not available to view during the Cathedral’s normal opening hours.
The experience takes around 45 minutes from start to finish and once admitted, there is no limit to the amount of time you can spend in the Cathedral.
Admission to the Cathedral will be within the slot you have booked and depending on the volume of guests, but please note that this may not specifically be at the start of your chosen slot.
The captivating installations allow you to explore the vastness of the universe, from the explosive energy of the Big Bang to the formation of galaxies, planets and stars.
It has been created by the acclaimed artistic collaboration Luxmuralis.
Each installation last about 5-8 minutes on a continuous loop and the entire experience should last around 45 minutes.
Guests should be mindful that due to the nature of the experience, very small children may be affected by the loud sounds and thus are welcome to bring and use their own ear defenders.
The building will be in darkness, except for projected light displays which will guide you along the route. Parts of the buildings will be dark, so please take extra care.
Visitors will journey through a series of captivating installations that portray humans as seen through different eras, exploring the fascinating theories of relativity, and the text of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine."
Through the immersive projected artworks guests will traverse wormholes, venture inside the intricate workings of clocks, and experience a dramatic narrative that spans from the present day back to the very beginning of everything.
You will be taken on a mesmerising voyage through the epochs of humanity, ultimately reaching the formation of our planet, creating a profound and awe-inspiring conclusion to this unique event.

Please note that there is no cloakroom or baggage storage facility at this event.
The Blackburn with Darwen Council website - blackburn.gov.uk/parking has comprehensive town centre car parking information.
We advise local people use public transport where possible and the Cathedral is less than 5 minutes’ walk from both Blackburn railway station and the town centre bus interchange.
In the unlikely circumstance that SPACE by Luxmuralis at Blackburn Cathedral is canceled by the promoter, full refunds will be automatically processed for all ticket holders.
At the end of your time at the Cathedral, you will exit through the Main West Doors at the front of the Cathedral which is opposite BBC Radio Lancashire on Darwen Street, BB1 5AA.

Although there are some old, uneven surfaces and care should be taken, the Cathedral is accessible and wheelchair friendly. There is level access into and around the building and there is a lift available to all floors.
The experience starts in the Crypt where there is level entry which is suitable for wheelchair uses.
Moving from the Crypt to the second stage which is in the Cathedral will involve a number of stairs. Wheelchair users and those with limited mobility can use the lift which is situated outside the Crypt near the entrance to Checks & Greys Café which will take you to the Temple Gallery. From here there is level access into the Cathedral.
At the end of your time at the Cathedral, you will exit through the Main West Doors at the front of the Cathedral which is opposite BBC Radio Lancashire on Darwen Street, BB1 5AA. There is level exit from the Cathedral which is suitable for wheelchair uses.

About Luxmuralis
‘Luxmuralis’ is the name given to the artistic collaboration Peter Walker Sculptor and David Harper Composer, who specialise in immersive fine art, light and sound installations around the UK and abroad. Creating works across multiple media and presentation formats.
Luxmuralis create artwork that explores and develops the fine art tradition through new media, and place contemporary fine art, light, and sound production in an art historical context. Luxmuralis take art onto the streets and provide access to visual artwork in public as well as unexpected places.
Audiences are immersed in a fine art experience that bring ancient monumental and sacred spaces to life. Viewers become part of the artwork as they physically journey through the spectacular sound and light which is described as ‘evocative and powerful’ by hundreds of thousands who have experienced Luxmuralis.
Fine art, light and sound reflects closely on the history, heritage and art history of unique places and brings together the contemporary and the ancient. More than a light show, Luxmuralis create contemporary exhibitions whose core is always close to the sense of place, they are credited for creating the ‘stained glass windows of our time’ within sacred spaces.
Luxmuralis spectacular sound and light installations have been seen in a variety of places including most recently: St Paul’s Cathedral, The Tower of London, Westminster Abbey; Chatsworth House; St Pauls Minneapolis; Limburg Dom; Oxford City museums; and many UK Cathedrals.
Artistic Director: Peter Walker MRBS FRS
As a sculptor and artist, Peter’s work adorns towns and cities both nationally and internationally. His art work consists of large-scale sculpture, commissioned and bespoke sculptural works as well as paintings, drawings, film, sound and light installations. Peter has vast experience in artistic direction / project management and large scale project development. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.

Composer and Sound Artist: David Harper MSC
David is a Composer and Sound Artist. The music he writes and produces has been used for BBC and Channel 4 productions as well as for national theatre productions, and film. David also creates sound art installations which combines his musical composition with video and film and are frequently exhibited at art events, museums and in public spaces throughout the UK.
