Reflected Glory – November Clergy Reflection
Lets take a moment to think about our Christian lives: are we positioned so that we can reflect God’s light into the world?
As the Moon lands at Blackburn Cathedral!
All this month we are hosting the Museum of the Moon, a beautiful exhibition the focus of which is a massive model of the Moon filling the centre of the Nave.
The month will also be filled with a variety of exciting events taking place, you can find out more about them below.
The Moon has an important lesson to teach us this month about our Christian life. As we look up at the night sky we see this beautiful sphere shining brightly, it is an evocative sight that has captivated humanity since the dawn of time. But the Moon itself does not shine, without the Sun it would simply be a smallish rock orbiting our planet. The Moon shines because it reflects the Sun’s light, it acts almost like a mirror bouncing the Sun’s rays back to us during the night.
So too in our Christian life. In his sermon on the mount Jesus tells his disciples “You are the light of the world.” But what kind of light do we have? Ours is a reflected light, like the moon in the night sky we reflect the light of Christ into the darkness of this world.
Without the light of Jesus shining brightly into the world we have nothing to offer, we would become just like a sunless moon. But when we position ourselves so that we can reflect God’s light it is amazing how beautiful and life giving the Church can be
It is my prayer for Blackburn Cathedral this month that we spend time enjoying the beautiful spectacle of the Moon in the Nave and all the events that are taking place. And more than that, I pray that we each take a moment to think of our own Christian lives: are we positioned so that we can reflect God’s light into the world?
