Bell Ringing

The sound of the Cathedral’s bells ring out across Blackburn, calling worshippers to the services and reminding everyone of our presence.

The Cathedral is fortunate to possess a fine ring of ten bells, cast by Messrs John Taylor of Loughborough in 1949 and considered by many ringers to be amongst the top dozen or so from a total of two hundred and fifty similar rings.

Ringing in the so-called "full circle" or "English" style has been practised on the Cathedral site for at least three hundred and fifty years, and we are privileged to be able to carry on this great tradition on such excellent bells.

Ringing normally takes place at the weekly practices on Thursday evenings, and before the 10.30 Sunday Eucharist. We also provide ringing for other significant Church services and events, or for important civic occasions. We extend a warm welcome to any new members of our company and to those who wish to learn the art of change ringing.
