Easter and Lent 2019

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

In the busy world of everyday living, finding time to stop and space to be still, is for many a very difficult task.  We are all too easily distracted by the immediate demands of the moment and taking time out can feel like an unnecessary luxury.

During the forty days of Lent, Christians are encouraged to examine and review their spiritual lives, drawing closer to God through prayer, fasting and devotion.  This leaflet provides some suggestions as to how you might re-energise your spiritual life during the next six weeks.

With the ongoing challenges that surround our nation at this moment in time, taking time out to pray and contemplate God’s activity in our lives helps to open up new perspectives on life’s difficult situations.

In a world of uncertainty and anxiety we need to be a people of hope.  A people who recognise that in prayer and worship, study and devotion we are ‘tuning in’ to the one in whom our ultimate hope is found.

So, please join with me and members of this faith community as we live Lent together.

The Very Revd Peter Howell-Jones
Dean of Blackburn
